Refurbished Computer Systems

Refurbished Computer Systems are All I Buy.
It used to be that whenever it came time to buy a new computer, I would go to an electronics store, spend over a thousand dollars, and always wonder if I had made the right choice.

A few years ago, my brother introduced me to a web site that sells refurbished computer systems, and I have not bought a new computer since.
First and foremost, I can get refurbished computer systems for a fraction of the cost that a brand-new computer system would cost me. In this day and age, that is a very big thing.

If I am going to make an investment of over a thousand dollars on anything, I had better to be able to either live in it or drive in it and be able to pay it out over time.
The second benefit of refurbished computer systems, and for me really the most important point, is that with the refurbished systems you know that everything is going to work properly. The reason they are refurbished is because there was something wrong with them that has been fixed, so now they run properly and will probably do so for years to come.
I have purchased two refurbished computer systems and both have served me very well. I had one for five years and never had a problem with it at all. As a matter of fact, I decided to pass it on to my younger sister. She was starting college, and I wanted to make sure that she had a good computer to do her school work.

The second refurbished system that I purchased was about two years ago, and once again, it works like a charm. I do a heavy workload of assignments as a freelance writer, and the computer holds up nicely under constant use and never gives me any trouble.

I recommended refurbished computer systems to a couple of friends who use their computers most of the day every day, as well, and both were very happy with the results. One of them told me that before  he bought a refurbished system, he would actually have to save up in order to buy a new computer and said it would always break the bank for him. Now, he can easily afford a system and knows that it will work just as good as a new system, if not better.
I don’t think that I will ever buy a new computer again. I know that for some people, a new computer is very appealing, and they would much rather have that than something that has already been used. That is fine. As for me, however, refurbished computer systems are all that I will use from now on, and I feel perfectly confident in doing so.

Palm PPC

The Palm PPC – the Hotspot in your Pocket.
It has to be the mob mentality: everyone loves the iPhone, a product, that while it is as polished as can be,  admittedly doesn’t use the kind of signal tracking and voice call technology you’d find on even cheaper phones;  and on the other hand there are competing products like the Palm PPC smartphones that come with an overall finesse and honest-to-goodness desire to please, not to mention affordable price tags and features the iPhone doesn’t. And no one knows it exists. Let’s look at two new Palm products on the market, the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pixi Plus, two wonders of American manufacturing that really deserve more love.

The Palm Pre Plus only costs $150, when you get it with a two-year contract. It has a tiny wonderfully smooth slide-out keyboard, and it has the shape and feel of a little polished stone. The Palm Pixi Plus(and that name is too cute for its own good) goes for just $100 with a two-year contract, and it’s what they call a candy bar phone, with a keyboard that appears right under the screen. For the $50 you save on this one, you do without some luxuries – it has the cruder camera, and it is slower – the one essential they haven’t touched, is WiFi connectivity. But the Pixi Plus really is as thin as its namesake, and as pleasing as a real pixie (one imagines).

The Palm PPC Web OS is a wonderful product that would be nice to see on competing smartphones that have its surefooted ease – like, say the Blackberry. Palm’s operating system is so pretty and so intuitive, you’d be hard-pressed to see how the iPhone is better. One of the best things about it is the way it can perform more than one task at a time. Do you want to listen to Internet radio as you read through your e-mail? No problem. And the iPhone isn’t the only one with that special toy called a multi-touch screen, you know.

It is what they call a fully loaded product too. You get WiFi, Bluetooth, a simple switch to turn the ringer off – just everything you want. And of course, Palm’s Web OS does multitasking with e-mail accounts and address books like no one else. You can look up your records with Google, Yahoo and Outlook all on the same screen. Of course there is a catch (isn’t there always).

The battery life isn’t all that great on any Palm PPC. There aren’t that many apps available for it at this time – barely a thousand, but Palm is trying to quickly catch up here. Of course 1000 doesn’t look very good next to the iPhone’s 120,000. But ar least, Palm’s thousand are all really great ones, and they expect the number of high-quality apps they have available to double every year.

There is one way in which these two Palm PPC products will outdo the iPhone any day: it can turn into a WiFi hotspot with one touch.

If you need to work on your laptop, you don’t need to carry around a pen drive-sized device or a data card or anything. Your phone is your hot spot. And your phone is in your pocket. That saves you $50 right away, and you and your friends can connect to the hotspot in your pocket any time.

The iPhone can do that too, if you wish to illegally hack into it; but the Palm PPC does this right out of the box, without any fussing about. There is just no other phone that does this fuss free. So what if it costs an extra $40?

Java Programming

A Look at Java Programming. Java is an object-oriented programming language that is modeled after C++. However the advantage that Java has over other programming languages is the fact that it is designed to be small, portable and robust, making it accessible from many different platforms and operating systems.

On the web, Java applications called applets can be created to be dynamic and interactive and can be embedded on a web page where users can use a Java-enabled browser ( most browsers these days are Java enabled)  to download and execute the Java code. Java programming however does not need to a browser. Programmers can create full-fledged application programs using Java to solve the same programming problems found in languages like C, C++ and Visual Basic.

As mentioned, Java is platform-independent. This means that once a program has been written in Java and compiled, it can be run on any machine that supports Java. By platform, we mean a processor. Java programming is also object-oriented in the sense that it enables the creation of flexible modular programs that provide system input and output capabilities as well as other utility functions. In fact, the object classes in Java provide a rich set of functionality that can be used for your programming needs.

Java programming is easy to learn since the original goals of Java were to create a language that is small and robust and one that avoids the pitfalls of other complex languages. Such things as memory management in Java and use of pointers and pointer arithmetic are not necessary. If you have used a high-level language like C++, Java programming will seem quite familiar.

Java programming involves the use of different self-contained components called objects each of which has a specific role. All you do is define how these elements interact without the need of knowing how the interaction occurs. All programmers do is take the objects and plug the together into working applications. Component software like JavaBeans make the process even easier.

Here users can access software components as working entities and link them together creating large custom applications.  It can thus be said that while object-oriented programming has brought the object-oriented software revolution for programmers, software components like JavaBeans have brought Java programming revolution to everyone. Once a person understand the concept of object oriented programming and how it is modeled on the real world, Java programming will take on a much easier approach.

Advertising agencies

Advertising Agencies and How They Work.

Advertising agencies have changed a lot since their hay day in the 1950s. Back then, as depicted in the hit TV series Mad Men (named for Madison Avenue in New York) chain smoking men dressed in suits and ties came up with slogans and ad campaigns for their nervous clients.

Clients have not changed much and continue to be nervous when it comes to staking all of their money on the ideas churned out by advertising agencies and their creative departments, but they are much more careful how they spend that money. From the 50s until just recently most advertising was either print, television, or radio and not much else.
Print advertising included display ads. Display ads ran the gamut from small two column want ads in the classified section of the local newspaper to full page double spreads in pricey magazines such as Playboy or Vanity Fair. Account executives would place their clientsí ads into these publications in compliance with the media plan that they created and which was approved by the client. The advertising agencies would charge a 15% commission based upon the price of the ad itself.

This was a very lucrative business but in the last fifteen years or so it has changed radically with the proliferation of boutique advertising agencies and smaller design firms who had smaller overhead and basically would do the same job for a lot less commission or for a flat fee. This practice caused the advertising agencies to rethink their basic structures and cut costs across the board.

The ability to create ads using computers did not really come into widespread practice until the late 1980s and the very first computers were not really computers at all but giant Linotronic typesetting machines that took up most of one room and required the use of toxic chemicals to produce professional looking type. A few years later Apple came out with their first Macintosh computers and helped to start the graphics revolution that continues to this day.

Those first Apple computers were tricky and required a lot of maintenance. It was faster many times to do the ad in the old fashioned way by hand using overlays and press type than to actually fiddle around with the primitive Mac. Eventually Macs became more stable and when programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator came into being, the way that ads were created was changed forever.

Part of print advertising is collateral work and that includes brochures, catalogs, direct mail pieces, pamphlets, and any other two dimensional graphics piece that is not classified as print ads. Until digital printing took over in the late 90s, most of these collateral pieces were printed by large four color printing houses. The resulting work was beautiful for the most part but would cost a bundle. Four-color offset printing was not cheap but it was high quality. Digital printing made collateral printing much cheaper but the quality really suffered, mainly because the inks would run and the stock that would go through the printers was not very thick or varied.

Todayís best advertising agencies have state-of-the-art digital computers and printers in-house along with teams of top notch copywriters, graphic designers and art directors. If you want to see samples of some of the top work each year just pick up a Communication Arts graphic design or advertising annual. This publication features full color photos of the best in advertising design each year.

Nintendo Wii Videogame

A Nintendo Wii Videogame Helped Me Lose Weight

When I decided a few years back to lose a couple of pounds, I turned to my cousin who said he had dropped 20 pounds in two months and had a great time doing so. He said he had bought a Nintendo Wii and started playing some of the games the system offered.

One Nintendo Wii videogame in particular proved to be the most valuable when it came to my weight loss goals, and it was the same one he had started with when he was trying to lose weight ó the Wii Fit videogame.

Essentially, it comes with a balance board feature that determines a person’s body mass index and Wii Fit age. The goal of the game is basically to get into better shape through about 40 different exercises that help you to burn calories and lose weight but are also fun to do.

When I first heard about the idea of becoming fit from a Nintendo Wii videogame, I was very skeptical. I had always felt that exercise involved going to the gym or running around the block. If you were not doing something grueling and sweating profusely, it didn’t seem like you were really getting the workout you needed.

What I soon discovered, however, was that I was losing weight and getting healthier, and I actually looked forward to playing the game. You have a variety of activities that you can do, which are divided into four categories: strength training, aerobics, yoga, and balance games. It never gets dull, because there are so many activities from which to choose.

Another great feature about this particular Nintendo Wii videogame is that it allows other people to compete with you. We actually set the game up to where my wife and children all play together, get a great work out in and have a ball in the process.

I really couldn’t ask for more, because I am losing weight, getting into better shape, providing a good example for my children and having a great time in the process. I have even found that my children will invite their friends over to play, and they have a lot of fun. To them, it is not exercise; they are just having a good time playing a video game with their friends.

I honestly never thought that a Nintendo Wii videogame would change my life to such a degree as Wii Fit has, but I can honestly say that I am in much better shape than when I first bought it. I’ve lost 30 pounds and have more energy, and can say with complete certainty that it was one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Voip calls

The Migration to VoIP calling.

Communication is important to everyone and especially to businesses. The need for a cheap and easy form of communication has brought about the integration of fax, email and recently use of VoIP calls. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) works just like your normal landline.

VoIP uses the internet to transmit voice, data and video traffic. Thus, VoIP calls have brought about a new revolution in cheap communication methods over long distances and in some cases, these calls can be made at absolutely no cost. As you can see, this form of communication is not only ideal for businesses, but for anyone looking for alternatives to a cheaper mode of communication.

However, VoIP calls offer more than just a cheap means of communication. With VoIP, you can conduct meetings and presentations with a number of people or even close deals with customers much faster than before. In addition, via a webcam or a videophone, you get to see who you are talking to.

VoIP calls can also be made and received anywhere on the planet as long as there is an internet connection. This allows for important business opportunities and emergencies to take place despite long distances. In almost all ways, VoIP calls prove to be superior to traditional phone calls.

Effective VoIP calls require that your internet connection be both stable and fast. When one of these is missing, any calls made via the internet will have delays or will result in dropped calls. This is an important consideration, especially when you are trying to make a sale. While a one-second delay may not seem like much, it can make a difference as to whether you get a ëyesí or a ënoí from the other party when it comes to a business transaction.

One of the best VoIP calls services is the one that is relayed over the 3G data network. This type of connection requires no PC, no WiFi connection or any additional kit. Some mobile operators have also integrated a VoIP element to their services that allows them to offer cheaper calling rates in addition to introducing new revenue streams. All in all, VoIP calling is transforming the global communications matrix by creating a single converged network that carries both voice and data on the same protocol. Many companies are rushing to migrate and many more are helping make the move. VoIP calls will continue to get cheaper and better. Have you made the move yet?
